It was incredible. I could run Mac OS simultaneously with Windows 7. Everything worked great. But since the computer companies are forcing everyone to downgrade to a newer OS I eventually had to get a newer computer to run the latest OS or risk not having any ability to run my business since systematically each web browser and software program was being forcibly retired to where it would not work, or not work with websites needed changing the OS on my existing hardware was not an option.
Parallels gives you version 13 even though the box says Everything installed and the Mac migration assistant made the transition to a new computer as easy as it could be. My old Windows was there as if by magic. However it is ridiculously slow. So slow that Windows boots but you can’t run any Windows programs and while Parallels is running the Mac works so slow that you get constant “spinning beach balls.
I suspect that you need at least 16GB or more to make this work. Unfortunately the new 21″ iMacs don’t have expandable RAM at least without performing risky and major “surgery” to your computer. So I am going to have to keep my old Mac running the old Parallels so I can access the 2 Windows programs I have to run, and just run the new Mac for Mac stuff. Which means the Parallels 13 was a complete waste.

I had not run Windows and Parallels for a while. I determined that Parallels12 was most compatible. Parallels 12 installed easily with no issues. I have used Parallels since it replaced Connectix Virtual PC and it is a great tool, getting better with each release.

Which means the Parallels 13 was a complete waste. After updating to Parallels 12 for Desktop, whenever I entered the virtual screen and clicked on an item, anything, the mouse pointer disappeared. I could get it back with certain keystrokes, but it would disappear again with first mouse click.
After several frustrating days without use of Windows on my Mac, which is not acceptable in my job, and several failed attempts at contacting Parallels support, I tried installing the Parallels Toolbox. This worked. However, support has since informed me that the problem was not that I needed Toolbox, but that I needed to have Parallels open on my computer for a fairly long time period to allow Windows to update and adjust to the new version of Parallels. Whatever the cause, all is fine now.
As a result, I have up-ed my rating to five stars. Parallels software is actually quite good, and other than this one glitch with installation, is has run flawlessly on my Mac for several years.
I’m running Sierra Updating to Parallels 12 did the trick. I purchased the software from a third party vendor, and it’s fine. Well I used to like Parallels a lot. Nothing wrong with the current features, it is more of the way Parallels supports the Mac releases. If they really wanted to, they could release patches as updates rather than force people to purchase new editions. Also, the setup is different between Pro and Home edition. I initially purchased the Pro edition and could not get it to install..
I am the administrator! Fortunately, Amazon was kind enough to refund and I immediately bought the Home edition and it installed without a hitch. It is strange that I can get digital download for Parallels Pro but need to get a registration card for home edition. All that arrives is a rather large box with a serial number card. That’s it! Doesn’t make any sense.
In terms of usage, it is great. I give it 5 stars In terms of support, I give Parallels 3 stars. One person found this helpful.
